Biography
Phil Plait knew he wanted to be an astronomer at the ripe old age of 5, when he first saw Saturn through a flimsy department store telescope. From that point on through many twists and turns, spending ten years working with Hubble Space Telescope as an observer, a programmer, and a calibration scientist led to him becoming a professional astronomer.
Astronomical outreach is Phil’s passion now. He writes the Bad Astronomy Blog for SyFyWire.com, one of the most popular science blogs in the world. He’s also written three books (Bad Astronomy, Death from the Skies!, and Nerd Disses), and was the host of the video web series Crash Course Astronomy.
He lives in the country outside Boulder, Colorado, where he uses a Regal M2 80EDto watch the blue herons, pelicans, bald eagles, and other wildlife that visits, and a Celestron 8" SGT XLT to observe the skies.
