Description
The Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield with Cover Cap is an essential accessory that protects your telescope tube in the field. The dew shield reduces radiative cooling of the Schmidt corrector lens to the night sky, thus keeping the lens below the dew point longer preventing dew formation on the lens. Additionally, the Aluminum Dew Shield increases image contrast by blocking stray light from entering the telescope for better viewing and astroimaging. Use the Aluminum Dew Shield on your 11” EdgeHD, RASA, or Schmidt Cassegrain (made after 2006) telescope tube confidently, knowing it was created for your exact instrument. See our FAQ for more details.
Construction
The Aluminum Dew Shield provides a perfect, custom fit for 11” Celestron telescope tubes. The exterior of the dew shield is a rigid, aluminum cylinder that will not fold, flex, or deform. Inside, a velvet-lined interior absorbs any additional stray light and excess moisture, creating optimal contrast when viewing and imaging. Attach the dew shield to your telescope tube with the two adjustable clips to ensure a snug fit.
We’ve also constructed the cover cap from durable yet lightweight aluminum. When your telescope is not in use, place the cover cap on your dew shield to protect your Schmidt corrector from stray dust particles. The cover cap also offers you the ability to quickly and easily acquire dark frames for imaging.
If you’re an astroimager who enjoys using your Schmidt-Cassegrain or EdgeHD in the Fastar/Hyperstar configuration or the RASA, you’re probably used to running cables out the front of the dew shield. Simplify and streamline your setup with the Aluminum Dew Shield’s integrated cable management slot at the base. This slot gives you an easy way to corral essential cables (like the ones for our Dew Heater rings) without potentially allowing light pollution to leak in. Also, there are cutouts to accommodate dovetail rails on the top and bottom of the telescope tube, ensuring a good fit regardless of the configuration.
Enhance your setup
When purchasing this item, you will receive 2x adhesive Celestron logo labels. Use them on your dew shield or anywhere else you like!

FAQ
The Aluminum Dew Shield is compatible with 6" or larger Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes (SCTs) built since the year 2006. I’m not sure when my SCT was built. How do I determine if the Aluminum Dew Shield is compatible?
You can determine if the Aluminum Dew Shield is compatible with your Celestron SCT by examining the design of its rear cell. This applies to fork mounted optical tubes and optical tubes with dovetail mounting bars. Older generation Celestron SCTs (the C8, C11, and C14) built before the year 2006 are not compatible with the Aluminum Dew Shield. These older optical tubes have either a flat face or a ribbed face on the rear cell. See photo examples below.
Newer generation Celestron SCTs built in the year 2006 or later are compatible with the Aluminum Dew Shield. These newer OTAs have a trilobed shape on the rear cell. In addition, newer generation 14" SCTs have a rounded rear cell. See photo examples below. All 6” and 9.25” SCTs are compatible with the Aluminum Dew Shields. All EdgeHD and RASA models are also compatible.
Can I leave the Aluminum Dew Shield on my telescope when I am transporting it?
We recommend removing the dew shield and placing the telescope’s own dust cover on during transport. If you do choose to leave the dew shield on, be careful that it does not get bumped or take impacts, otherwise it may become dented or deformed. Also, do not rest the telescope tube upside-down on the ground with the dew shield attached as the dew shield was not designed to support the weight of the telescope.
